"Rambling Roger's your
man. In these days of instant gratification, it is rare to
find anyone so devoted to a task, which for him has been a true
labour of love. He is Gran Canaria's Wainwright and
deserves similar recognition"

"The mountain scenery includes sculptured cliffs and
rock faces with deep gorges called barrancos but also
some lovely alpine type meadows.
Huge areas are
unspoilt and as nature intended and large parts of the
island are protected reserves.
There are many cave
houses, pretty villages and small fincas or farms. All
walks give stunning views across the island and I
consider a camera essential"

Route Updates
As local residents and
walkers, we strive to keep ourselves fully up-to-date with all

We personally check out routes
ongoing and updates will be available to hikers who have

20/03/09:
New update to Walk
22 - Cruz de
Tejeda to San Mateo
This
is an important change to walk 22. You can no longer
complete the original walk as part of the path after
leaving Las Lagunetas cemetery is now completely
overgrown. These changes are necessary to complete the
walk from
Cruz de Tejeda
to San Mateo.

12/01/09: New update to Walk 12 - Pico de las
Nieves Circle
Please find
below the amended paragraphs for Guides bought prior to:
12/01/09
2:- At the T junction the dirt
road goes right, but you want to continue straight on
to the footpath labelled PR GC 60 to La Goleta, in a
S.W. direction. This path has great views on
the right across to Roque Nublo, the Caldera of Tejeda
and beyond, your footpath continues downhill to cross
the dam wall of the Presa de los Hornos within 15
minutes (GPS N 27.57.940 W 15.35.690).
Continue up the other side until you come to a small
car park on the GC 600 about 25 minutes from the
outward bound centre.
3:- This part
of the walk is for experienced mountain walkers only,
with no problems with vertigo. This section can be
dangerous in wet weather. Here you must
cross straight over the GC 600 with care onto a slippery
uphill path, turn sharp left within 10 metres ( see
photo above ), then wind
your way steeply uphill for a couple of minutes. Your
path then heads clearly South across a ridge, then
continues uphill in a S.E. direction. This
path can be rather overgrown in places. Within 15
minutes you reach the top of the ridge (GPS N
27.57.820 W 15.35.950) where the path has been
cleared, there are several private hunting signs
here, and you can clearly see the main road, GC 600,
beneath you to your left. Continue across this ridge
in a Southerly direction and within 10 minutes you
come to a junction, (GPS N 27.57.660 W 15.36.000).
There has been considerable
erosion after this junction, and this is the part of the
route that is for experienced mountain walkers only. You
head steeply uphill, in a S.W. direction, there are
several stone cairns here, sometimes a little scrambling
is required, and as you near the top you are aiming for
a cave with some pine trees above it to your left. (GPS
N 27.57.620 W 15.36.020) Take care as you approach the
cave, bear right and the top of this ridge is just 5
minutes above the pine trees. From the
top of the ridge bear right and head West for the
best views, these views from the top I consider to be
amongst the best on the island. Take a well earned
break here after an interesting 40 minute walk to enjoy
these wonderful views from El Montañon.

Roger
and Eileen opened our eyes to the beautiful parts of
Gran Canaria, beyond the beaches, that we did not
realise existed. Their expertly guided walks took
us to such incredible places, inland lakes, waterfalls,
valleys and challenging peaks, quite unique in natural
beauty. Roger's extensive knowledge of the island
makes the walks so interesting and fun with his amusing
anecdotes and warm sense of humour. We shall be
eternally grateful to them both

Every effort has been made to ensure
the accuracy of information, but things do change, a dirt track
may become concreted, and a house may have been re-painted a
different colour. Also there are often rock falls after
heavy rain, or water can be running in a usually dry stream bed
etc. All walks are undertaken at your own risk, we accept
no liability for any accidents.
Whilst every consideration has been given
to your safety in the planning of these routes, ultimately your
safety is your own responsibility.
